Student Spotlight: Yvette Bostic

How many years has it been since you graduated high school?

What motivated you to return to college?
I attended SUNY Fredonia while in my senior year of High School, acquiring 9 credit hours. Twenty years ago, you could have a career without a college education, but that is no longer the case. I've reached a wall in my current job, which prohibits me from advancing without, at minimum, a Bachelor's degree.

Why did you choose to enroll in the RBA program?
I enrolled in the RBA Program because it seemed to be the best fit for me. It's designed for adults who have been out of school for more than 5 years. The RBA Program made getting a degree a realistically obtainable goal for me. Having a full time job, along with being a wife and mother, isn't conducive to also being a full time student. There isn't enough time in the day for everything, and I'm not in a position to quit doing any of those things. The RBA Program's flexibility allows me to take classes at my own pace and the Portfolio Program enables me to convert my prior work experiences into college credits. Both of these options motivate me to keep moving forward in my degree because I can see real progress, without sacrificing my job or time with my family.

What are your career goals, and how do you think the RBA program will help you achieve them?
I'm at a point in my life where retirement isn't that far away. I'd like to ensure that I'm doing as much as I can now to ensure stability in retirement. The best way for me to accomplish that, is to strive to improve in my career.
